THE PALLID CATTLEYA.

(CATTLEYA PALLIDA.)

ORIGINAL PRINT

 [PLATE 48.]

Date: 1851-1852

A fine Stove Epiphyte, from the WEST OF MEXICO, belonging to the Natural Order of ORCHIDS.

Excerpt from text, which is included along with a copy of the Title Page:

THIS is the Cattleya mentioned in Hartweg's Journal ( journal of the Horticultural Society, vol. i.183) as having been found, near Tepic, beyond which that miserable document gives no information. It is nearly related to the Moss Cattleya, from which it differs in having very long furrowed
pseadobulbs and flowers' without any indication of coloured veins. The flowers are larger too than usual, the lip much less wavy, and the leaves weak and undulating instead of stiff and firm...............

Order#: PAX-48

Size: 8 ˝” x 11”

Paxton produced The Magazine of Botany, and Register of Flowering Plants. This series of magazines was published in London 1834-1849. During the years of 1850-1852, Paxton along with John Lindley published the rare three-volume work: PAXTON’S FLOWER GARDEN. Represented are many exotic species especially fine Orchids. They are often compared to the early volumes of Warner and Williams, Orchid Album. The print offered for sale here is from this first edition, which is a completely different product to the 1882 color printed edition frequently found. These prints were produced using a zincographic process along with hand coloring and have the plate markings Pinx & Zinc.

Condition: Excellent Vibrant color with some very minor spotting.

Price: $79.99
