No dust jacket This edition, very scarce, is especially prized for the quality of the paper, bindings, and illustrations, and is considered the best 20th century edition of the finest color illustrated study of the North American Indian.
§ The value of McKenney and Hall's work lies chiefly in the fact that it records the features of numerous Indians prominent in the history of the United States in portraits painted from life, showing their native costumes, facial painting, hairdressing, ornaments, etc. Also, the fact that the data for many of the biographies were obtained during the lifetime of the individuals, and is the only source of information respecting them, is of significant value.
