Hand-colored lithographic frontispiece, XII, 66 pages with 32 single sided
hand-colored lithographic plates and index, printed by Bradbury and Evans, the
hand-coloring heightened giving especially strong, deep colors to the plates
which show the butterflies in naturalistic settings against their food plants
and flowers full page hand colored illustrations and backgrounds. Nicely bound
in contemporary full red morocco, gilt, raised bands, all edges gilt. 4to
(7.5 x 10.5ins, 190 x 265mm) Hand-colored lithographic title-page
with gilt lettering, Some pin-hole worm traces to the blank head margins,
usually not intruding more than 1 cm (1/2inch) onto the sheet, and well away
from the images (stronger on the front end-papers and first few leaves). Simply
restored or mounted-out. Otherwise a very pleasant copy. Only edition,
