This CD disc presents 54 high-resolution digital BMP images from the 1882
edition of NESTS AND EGGS OF BIRDS OF THE UNITED STATES. These images can
be printed directly from the CD or imported to Adobe Photoshop, Adobe
Illustrator, PaintShop Pro, Adobe PhotoDelux, PrintMaster and other popular
painting and drawing programs and printed on quality inkjet paper producing
stunning results suitable for framing. Or for designing your own greeting cards,
posters, brochures and calendars.
The print out size is the same size as the originals, if not
enlarged or reduced. I have found that these Images print best on Ink Jet matte
paper. When printed directly from the CD, they are the actual size. (The same as
the originals) and the result is an awesome print almost indistinguishable as a
reprint, even when using a relatively inexpensive home ink jet printer.
This CD contains the entire collection of original
images as well as a set which has been digitally enhanced in the transfer to CD
as in the scan below. These
web images are electronically watermarked, the CD images are not.
Complete with the intricately colored chromolithographed frontispiece portrait
title page and 54 beautifully illustrated full-page color plates. Whitman
Bennett, author of A Practical Guide to American Nineteenth Century Color
Plate Books (1949), had this to say of this work, "Drawings done
chiefly by Mr. Edwin Sheppard of the Academy of Natural Sciences of
Philadelphia, acknowledged as the best ornithological artist in America"
(p. 44).
Gentry's book, originally published in 25 parts from 1880-82, was a popular
chronicle of the nesting habits of 50 species of North American birds. The vivid
plates have been digitally enhanced in the transfer to CD. The plates depict
