SHELDON, J.P. - Dairy Farming. Being the Theory, Practice and Methods of Dairying.

London : Cassell, Petter, Galpin & Co, no date (c1880).

4to (8 x 10in.) publisher's brick-red pictorial cloth, gilt, corners rubbed. 25 chromolithographic plates, comprising 13 of groups of cattle in pastoral settings, 1 of pigs, 1 of poultry, an Alpine dairy station, a cheese factory, 4 of forage plants, and 4 of maps and plans. Many engraved  text-illustrations, pp 570. A little foxing, but to versos of a couple of plates only, not affecting the images. The cattle plates include named British breeds, plus two of continental cattle. The colored plates are mostly of cattle but also show poultry, pigs and forage plants. Also included is a detailed section on dairy farming in America . In the same series as Book of the Dog, Book of Poultry, Book of the Horse, Book of Pigeons, Canaries and Cage Birds. The plates are to the same high standard of finish and rather unusual and appealing subject matter, too.
