  CUVIER, B.: The CLASS REPTILIA arranged by the BARON CUVIER with Specific Descriptions by Edward Griffith and Edward Pidgeon. London. Whittaker. 1831, the most comprehensive of the English translations. Large 8vo 10.5 inches x 6.5 inches [265mm x 165 mm]. Volume 9 of Cuvier's ANIMAL KINGDOM. Pp 481+ 110 page, supplement to the different orders or larger groups of them, in which many contributions are made to the illustration of zoology of reptiles and amphibians, especially of their natural habitats, slight foxing. 55 Engraved plates which includes 48 ORIGINAL HAND COLOURED PLATES, and 7 uncolored plates (as listed). Tight, clean and bright with only occasional marginal spotting. Bound in original half blue leather and marbled paperboards with the title stamped in gilt on the spine. Most colored animal examples are one to the page and set in a scenic background. Animals described are snakes, crocodiles, salamanders, tortoise, lizards, toads, frogs and chameleon.
